GEORGE LYNCH Says There Is 'There Is Talk' Of Classic DOKKEN Lineup Playing 'At Least One Big Show Next Year'
June 18, 2018George Lynch has told SiriusXM DJ Eddie Trunk that he hopes the classic lineup of DOKKEN will regroup for more live shows following the band's successful 2016 tour of Japan. "I would like to revisit it, but I wouldn't bet on it happening, although there is talk of at least one big show next year," he said. "Just a one-off. I don't know if that's worth doing, but we'll see."
Lynch also said that he was hapy with how the new DOKKEN song "It's Just Another Day" turned out and that he wouldn't mind recording a new full-length album with the band. "I'd like to do more," he said. "If I'm going to do anything, I'd like to make it count. When we wrote '[It's] Another Day', the song that's on the current live record ['Return To The East'], I was like, 'Guys, obviously there's something here worth pursuing. Let's do a whole album. Why not?'"
The official video for "It's Just Another Day" — the first DOKKEN track featuring the group's classic lineup since 1997's "Shadowlife" — can be seen below. The clip was filmed in January with director Jamie Brown, who has previously worked with LYNCH MOB and KXM.
In October 2016, the classic lineup of DOKKEN — Lynch, Don Dokken (vocals),Jeff Pilson (bass) and Mick Brown (drums) — reunited to play the Loud Park festival in Japan. Fortunately for fans outside of Japan, cameras were there to capture the performance and Frontiers Music Srl issued "Return To The East Live 2016" on April 20. In addition to the Japanese performance, this set features footage from the classic lineup's only U.S. show in September 2016 at Badlands in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as well as newly recorded acoustic reworkings of "Heaven Sent" and "Will The Sun Rise".
Since completing the reunion dates, DOKKEN has continued to perform with the group's current lineup, save for a handful of shows in late 2017 that saw guitarist Ira Black (LIZZY BORDEN, VICIOUS RUMORS) fill in for Jon Levin. The group has scattered tour dates scheduled through the summer, including a performance at this year's Wacken Open Air festival.
